An award-winning creative, Tharanga Ramanayake writes, directs, shoots, edits, and designs.
I make movie trailers and other marketing content for entertainment. I also dabble in photography and filmmaking.
Long story short: My father Vijaya Ramanayake was a popular film and music producer in Sri Lanka. He had a big influence on me to work in the arts. Due to various reasons including a civil war we moved to Canada with next to nothing. In Toronto I fell in love with music videos and all I ever wanted back then was to work for MuchMusic (a music video network). That became a reality while I was in highschool through an internship. That led to a job editing, then becoming a promo producer… which eventually led me to movie trailers. Some of those include THIS IS POP, A.RTIFICIAL I.MMORTALITY, PORTRAYAL and SEX WITH SUE - Sue Johanson Documentary.
I briefly trended on social media when I art bombed street artist Banksy, and I also recently directed and produced a documentary called BodyPride, which is about Naked therapy and body positivity.
My chops have earned a Canadian Academy Award/Gemini Award, over a dozen Promax Awards, 6 Golden Trailer nominations and believe it or not even a Guinness World Record (World's Shortest TV Commercial - MuchMusic).
Most people think ‘a creative’ is being an artist. But it’s much more broad than that. It can be anything from a Breakdancer, to a Software Developer creating an app, to a City Planner putting in a new road.
Become the President of the United States, but that will never happen.

The meaning of life. As a Buddhist we are in search of nirvana. Looking to escape that life birth/rebirth cycle. It’s the final goal for us. It's a question I ask myself; why are we here?
I wish I was a better writer. It’s a great skill that not only allows you to be creative, but also to communicate.
I wish for world peace. I know it’s a cliche answer but it’s true. A quick Google search revealed there are 27 live conflicts right now. That's 27 too many. As the smartest living beings on this planet, can we get our shit together?
I love taking photos & cycling. I think those 2 things keep me going.
I never dance, I can’t dance, I have 2 left feet. But there are too many songs to list.

If you live in Toronto you have seen Matthew Deldegan's LoveBot statues and artwork everywhere. I’m a big fan and I own a sculpture myself.

Catherine McMillan creates donuts out of ceramics. You can literally hang them on your wall. They are so beautiful and fun. I have a spot in my kitchen where I can hang 3. I hope to get some soon.

Kevin Parry is a stop motion and VFX genius. I love his work and love that he often lifts the curtain and shows us how it was done.
